Have you ever felt triggered by certain words and phrases during class discussions? Would you like to share your experiences with linguistic micro-aggressions? Do you consider the emotional impact of culturally appropriating words and the collective identity processes involved in communication? Is there a difference between buzzwords and trigger words? And did you know that we may overcome triggering conversations through notions of ‘reclaiming’ when dealing with controversial topics in a university setting? Or, perhaps, are you simply keen to learn more about sociolinguistic processes that cause uneasy feelings within yourself and/or others? If so, attend Dr. Mo Gordon’s informal lecture and Q&A about trigger words helping students to tackle difficult conversations respectfully and with an inclusive mindset, hosted by COOP!
