Open-air cinema, exhibitions, and more: Arts Committee of Leiden Law School
The KOG has more to offer than just the transfer of knowledge. The Arts Committee of Leiden Law School organises activities in and around the faculty to stimulate our senses in other ways. They kicked off the new academic year with an open-air cinema evening and an exhibition of photos and haikus.
Open-air cinema
A balmy summer evening, bike racks put to one side to make way for rows of seats, and Erin Brockovich projected onto the wall of the KOG. On Thursday 7 September, the faculty's Arts Committee organised an open-air cinema evening for the very first time.
In the film, a multi-million dollar company is taken to court by a single mother and the head of the law firm she works for. They are representing more than 600 citizens who had contracted various diseases as a result of chemicals in their drinking water. The topic of the film sparked discussions among the audience about similar current Dutch lawsuits, for instance concerning the company Chemours.
Exhibition 'Zeitgeist'
Shortly before the movie night, a new exhibition was also opened in the C corridor of the KOG with the theme ‘Zeitgeist’. The exhibition was organised in collaboration with the Leiden Amateur Photographers Association, and the Haiku Kern Leiden. The photographers were challenged to visualise their contemporary zeitgeist. Their work was then provided with a matching Haiku by the Haiku Kern Leiden. A haiku is a poem consisting of three lines where the first and third lines have five syllables, and the middle line has seven syllables. Come and take a look in the C corridor in the coming weeks!
