Privacy and data breaches
Any loss of control over stored personal data constitutes a potential data leak. In most cases this concerns stolen (or lost) digital files, but a stolen (or mislaid) printed list containing personal data also represents a data leak. It is important that you report any data leak.

ORCID iD and DOI
An ORCID iD is a unique code that identifies you as a scientist in a reliable and consistent way, much like the social security number in a passport. DOI does the same but for a scientific publication instead of a person. DOI and ORCID iD are examples of persistent identifiers.

If you write a doctoral dissertation, please inform yourself about copyright. Copyright protects you as an author. Publishers may ask you to transfer the copyright to them, but you are not obliged to do so.
