Kinderen met selectief mutisme spreken in sommige situaties, vaak thuis, heel goed. In andere situaties, bijvoorbeeld op school - spreken deze kinderen consequent niet. Ze blokkeren en het ‘niet praten’ lijkt onbewust hun manier te zijn om met spanning in sociale situaties om te gaan.

Om jongeren met selectief mutisme beter te kunnen helpen, is het belangrijk om van henzelf te horen hoe zij zich voelen en wat zij ervaren. In dit onderzoek luisteren we naar de stem van jongeren zelf en dat doen we op manieren die het beste bij hen passen.

Het is voor scholen in toenemende mate een forse uitdaging om uitval van docenten op te vangen. Het lerarentekort benadrukt het belang van een ondersteunende werkomgeving en sterke binding tussen docent en school.
