Dutch Premiere Screenings With Studium Generale Leiden
Set during the Dutch Hunger Winter of 1944-45, this award winning feature premieres with Studium Generale at Kijkhuis Leiden for the 81st anniversary of Southern Holland World War 2 liberation. Based on true events, Old Heart tells the story of black Army Veteran Tom Johnson who is determined to return to Brabant 60 years after the war to reconnect with the love of his life, Jewish translator Sarah van Praag.
Johnson’s children are in hot pursuit of their dad after he fails to show up on schedule for assisted living in Detroit and disappears on a flight to Amsterdam. A tribute to elder independence, this mixed race love story features Dutch costar Eva Doueiri in her screen debut. Filmed on location in Brabant and Michigan.
Actor Eva Doueiri and producer/screenwriter Roger Rapoport, who adapted the film from Peter Ferry’s award winning novel, will be at this screening.
