Creative writing | English spoken

Tuesday from 19:30-21:30 h (with homework assignments)

Docent
McKenna Faulkner

For whom
For beginners, and also for more intermediate or advanced writers in need of a refresher or  some group feedback.

Content
It may seem like all good writers were born with some innate artistic ability, and while that’s undoubtedly true of (some) Nobel Prize winners, don’t be fooled: almost all good writing is a product of perseverance, discovery, and gradual improvement. It is also a product of knowing what you’re doing, and that’s where this course comes in.

In this course, we will go over all the basics of creative writing, covering topics that range from choosing a premise to writing effective dialogue. You will be introduced to a wide variety of genres and get to practice implementing more or less subtle strategies to improve your writing. More importantly perhaps, you will be encouraged to explore your own personal voice and all throughout the course the feedback you receive from your teacher and peers will help you understand your strengths and weaknesses and allow you to improve upon them.

Though this course is mostly geared toward beginners, more intermediate or advanced writers in need of a refresher or just some group feedback are also welcome to join.

In this course, you will:
-learn the basic tools that writers use to enchant
-(start to) discover your own voice
-practice giving and receiving feedback on written work
-have the opportunity to explore a variety of genres

About the lessons:
Each lesson will consist of numerous writing exercises. Some will be short, in which case you will be immediately given the opportunity to exchange feedback in small groups or with the whole class. Some of the exercises will be longer and you will get to finish them at home and present them in class the following week.

Max. participants: 8
