Course and exam enrolment
Compulsory for all components
You must enrol for all components of your study programme, such as lectures, seminars and exams. This applies to both compulsory elements and elective credits. If you are not enrolled, you may not participate.
Are you an exchange student, are you following a pre-master programme, or are you following courses whilst being registered at another Dutch university? If so, different enrolment procedures apply. You will receive further information by email.
Plan and enrol via MyStudymap
You can enrol via MyStudymap. In this system you can also plan your enrolments in advance. This means you can plan everything in your own time, then submit all your course enrolments in one go at the start of the enrolment period. Please note: your enrolment plan is not an actual enrolment and does not guarantee you a place.
Exams: confirm participation
If you enrol for an exam (or exam component) this is only a so-called pre-enrolment. You must later also confirm exam participation in MyStudymap.
This can be done until 10 days before the exam date. You will receive a reminder to do so. If you do not confirm participation, you may not take the exam and you will automatically be unenrolled.

You can find the enrolment deadlines for each course in the prospectus. For most courses, you can enrol till maximum 14 days before the course is due to start.
Busy periods: ticket system
During busy periods, MyStudymap makes use of a ticket system to prevent the system becoming overloaded. This works as follows:
- When you access MyStudymap, you will be put on a waiting list. You can see your place on the waiting list and an estimate of how long you will have to wait. You can also set up an email alert to notify you when it's your turn.
- Once it's your turn, you will have ten minutes in which to log in. If you don't log in, you will be allocated a new place on the waiting list.
- Once you are logged in, you can go ahead with your planning and enrolment.
Status of your enrolments
On the status screen in MyStudymap you can see if your enrolment has been successful. If so, you will be given access to the course environment in Brightspace and the course will appear in your personal timetable in MyTimetable. Please note: it can become very busy at the start of the enrolment period so you may have to wait a couple of hours for your enrolment to be processed.

Enrolling for Courses via MyStudyMap
For lectures, tutorials and exams you have to register in time via MyStudymap. Not being registered for a course can mean that you are not allowed to participate in the final exams of the course. By registering for an exam, you receive a so-called preregistration. You must confirm your participation in an exam in the student portal between thirty and ten days before the exam takes place. You will be notified of this. If you do not confirm your participation in time, you cannot participate in the exam.
If you see the code 101 on an exam, it refers to the regular exam. If it says 901 then it refers to a retake. 501 refers to a non-graded test.
If there are more groups these numbers could be 101, 102 etc.
All students are required to register for all lectures, tutorials and exams. Exceptions are:
- First-year students: As a new first-year student you do not have to register for the courses (and components) of the first semester. This is done for you by the programme together with the student administration.
- Students following the program LST: For LST students, registration is done via the Delft system.
- Master students: As an exception, there is no pre-registration for academic year 2022-2023. Registration is still required, but not yet before the start of a course. Note: registration for exams is required, though
- Minor: For the courses and activities that are part of the minor program, you will be registered by the programme, after being assigned by the programme, in cooperation with the student administration. This applies to the FWN-minors.
- Premaster: You must register for the courses you must follow in uSis with classnumbers.
- Guest Students with Proof of Paid Tuition Fees: You must register for the courses you must follow in uSis with classnumbers.
Planning your study
Before the registration period opens, you can plan your studies for the coming semester in MyStudymap. From this planning you can register for all courses at once when registration starts. Read more about the difference between planning and enrolling.
Note on abbreviations in MyStudyMap (uSis)
catalogue no. + H = Lecture or seminar (LEC)
catalogue no. + W = Workgroup or labwork (LAB)
catalogue no. + T = Exam or retake (TEN)
catalogue no. + X = Other assessment method (paper, groupwork) (OVG)
Did something go wrong, or did you miss a deadline?
- Did you miss the deadline for enrollment? Fill in the late registration form .
- Did something go wrong or is a course missing in MyStudyMap? Then send an email to FWNStudentsupport@science.leidenuniv.nl
Don't forget to mention you studentnumber in the email and the title and uSiscode of the course in question. And also your study.
Describe as extended as possible what went wrong and if possible attach a screenshot to your mail that shows the page where your problem occurred.
Enrolling for courses via uSis
Are you a student of one of these categories then you cannot enroll for courses via MyStudyMap. You must enroll via uSis.

If you want to enroll for a course and do not know what the classnumbers are, then you can send an email to FWNstudentsupport@science.leidenuniv.nl . Please give your studentnumber, study and a link to the course in the E- prospectus. We will provide you with the necessary information.
Below you see the various Minor of the Science Faculty and the classnumbers for the courses. You can use these to enroll for courses via uSis.
It is possible that the minor is already part of you requirements if you are a regular student in Leiden. Then you can also enroll via MyStudyMap.

Sometimes you need to hand in a transcript of Grades at (for instance) another university?
You can request one by sending an email to Transcript@science.leidenuniv.nl. In the subject line, please mention you studentnumber and study for which you request the list.
Registration for Minors in 2023-2024
From 2023 onwards, you will no longer register for minors via uSis. Instead, you will use EduXchange.
