Sustainable demolition of old laboratories Einsteinweg

2 October 2017

Leiden University has begun the sustainable demolition of the old LCP building. The demolition precedes the second phase of the Gorlaeus new building; the first part (phase 1) became operational at the end of 2016.

Update demolition process

Asbestos removal in the low-level construction is now largely finished. In the coming weeks, the remediation of the interior of the building will be completed, after which the remediation work on the outside of the LCP building will start. Full-scale demolition of the building will take place in November, using a demolition crane that will 'cut' the building into pieces.

The high-rise building is now empty and closed. All services are currently being disconnected. In October, the contractor will begin stripping the inside, after which asbestos removal will also be started here.
