Make sure you have well-fitting safety glasses

Ill-fitting safety glasses

In 2017 a small number of incidents with a fluid in the eye were registered, despite the fact that employees or students were wearing safety glasses. This motivated a survey of the basic factors how these incidents could have happened. The result of the investigation was that the safety glasses didn’t always fit very well and not protected the eyes for chemicals or flying objects as effect. This situation creates false sense of safety.

Own glasses don't offer sufficient protection

The safety department also noticed that people who wear their own corrective glasses think they are protected which is not the case. Corrective glasses are not functional as safety glasses. The corrective glasses don’t cover the soft tissue around the eyes and don’t connect well with the face. The specs of safety glasses are 6 to 7 times stronger than corrective glasses in case of flying objects.

Well-fitting safety glasses

With the supplier VWR we made a selection of different models normal safety glasses and transfer safety glasses. In this way everyone can obtain fitting safety glasses so the university can provide real safety instead of false safety.
