Join the Sustainable Business Battle
Do you want to show that sustainability and business can work well together? And are you ready for a challenge? If so, you can sign up for the Sustainable Business Battle, a business case challenge in which teams of students help companies find innovative and sustainable solutions.
The Sustainable Business Battle is an opportunity for interdisciplinary teams of students, four in each team, from Leiden University, the Hogeschool Leiden and the Haagse Hogeschool to work together on a business case put forward by a company in the Leiden, The Hague or Delft region. The ten teams compete with one another to come up with the most sustainable, innovative and at the same time feasible solution for the company's problem. Students who take part will receive training and coaching by consultants and from sustainability experts. It's solving a business case, through green glasses!
The Sustainable Business Battle starts on 25 May. Do you want to participate? Apply now! Applications close 22 April.

In 2017, the first edition of the Sustainable Business Battle took place. During the finals, Melanie Schultz van Haegen, then Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment, was one of the jury members. Several student teams stayed in contact with their company after the battle to work on the implementation of their ideas. Afterwards, the concept of the Sustainable Business Battle was rewarded with both the Sustainability Trophy and the Van Bergen Price.
Heleen van der Heijden, last years’ participant, tells about her experience: ‘There were interesting keynote speakers and trainings during the training days. Also, the in-house day at Vliko, the organisation for which I did the project, gave new insights. In a short period of time, you learn how to deal with a complex question and how to find creative solutions for a problem. That makes it very tangible! I learned new skills that I can use during my study and career. Also, I met many new people and worked in an ambitious and enthusiastic team which made the battle great fun as well!’
The programme of the Sustainable Business Battle is set-up in such a way that students can participate alongside their full-time study. The training days and finals will take place during evenings and weekend days and are organised in such a way that students don't need to work on the battle in between.
