Become a Science Buddy
Become a Science Buddy
Are you ready to become a SCIENCE Buddy for the Fall semester 2019/2020?
The SCIENCE Buddy Programme is offered to all new international students of the Faculty of Science, Leiden University. A SCIENCE Buddy is a current student of the Faculty of Science, who is easily approachable and can share his or her experience with our new international students.
What it means to be a Science Buddy
You will be the first connection for new international science students coming to the Netherlands at the end of August. We will try to match you with one or two students of your own study programme. At the start of August, you will receive each other’s (online) contact details and you can start to get in touch.
As a SCIENCE Buddy, you will give our new international students a warm welcome! Being there especially during the first few days and weeks that the student experiences at Leiden University is one of your most important tasks. You will help them with finding their way around the city, to their student housing, the Faculty, their department and of course, show them the places-to-be in Leiden and/or The Hague. Not all our new international students will be able to join the Orientation Week Leiden (OWL) and you will be of great value.
Being a buddy is not only a great way to give back, it is also a good way to learn more about other cultures, start your international network and practice your own language skills.
100% of the Science Buddies who completed the evaluation form in the previous year said they recommend being a Buddy to others! International students were very positive and called the SCIENCE Buddy Programme their 1st contact with the culture and programme you choose.
