A wake-up call for everyone

5 June 2020

The violent death of George Floyd has made a deep impact on all of us at Leiden University, and especially on our black community at a time when COVID-19 is affecting black and minority ethnic populations across the globe in disproportionate numbers as a consequence of social inequality.

The death of George Floyd and the COVID-19 pandemic serve as a wake-up call for everyone that, to be able to uphold Leiden University’s core values of diversity and inclusion, we need to recognize and speak out against racism and inequality. The Executive Board is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive university community, and we ask our students and staff to contribute to this goal, in teaching, in research, and in our daily interactions.
