Student card now digital only
From the academic year 2022-2023 onwards, Leiden University student cards will be digital only. Physical student cards will no longer be issued.

To use the digital student card, you will need the Leiden University app.

When will my student card be available?
New students
Your student card will appear in the app within 3 days of the finalisation of your student registration, but not earlier than 2 months before the start of your study programme.
Re-registering students
The Leiden University app only shows your student card for the current academic year. If you re-register for the next academic year, your new student card will become visible in the app on 1 September.
Not valid ID for exams
You cannot use your digital student card as ID when taking exams. Instead, you must show your LU-Card, accompanied by a valid ID document such as your passport or EU ID card.
