Join the Fieldweek Experimental Archaeology at the Masamuda centre in Vlaardingen

3 June 2022

Within the context of the project Putting Life into Late Neolithic Houses we will organize a field school on Experimental Archaeology from July 11 to 15, 2022. During this week we will make make a start with furnishing the reconstructed house, by making containers, small stools, and storage facilities. We will also add some features to the yard. Students will learn about wood working, basketry, wickerwork and other crafts and will also particpate in cooking experiments. We will use replicas of Neolithic tools.

Accomodation will be rather primitive, we can camp on the terrain or sleep in one of the Medieval house reconstructions at Masamuda. There are toilets but showering facilities are not available. The nearby river can be used for a refreshing dive. Cooking will be done on a woodfire at the Neolithic house and obviously will take dietary preferences of the participants into account. Before signing up, please consider whether you are comfortable with these less than luxurious circumstances.

There is still place for five people.
