Give yourself a flying start at the University Library!

8 September 2022

'Sometimes it’s just nice to look at something other than a screen for a change.'

'You can have books deliverd to the Faculty!'

Give yourself a flying start to the semester at the library! Leiden University Libraries offers six library locations where you can study quietly, even until the late evenings. You can also find the most recent books, journals and articles regarding your new field in our collection. Sterre, who just finished her master’s in Archaeology, explains: 'You need quite a lot of books for Archeology. Fortunately, I found out early on that you can have those delivered to the faculty!'

Just request your books or journals via the catalogue. At some libraries, you can also check them out at the library desk. Most books can be borrowed for at least three weeks. Would you rather study from the comfort of your own bed? You can use the same catalogue to access journals, articles and databases directly from home.

'I always start with the catalogue'

Sterre: “Lots of sources are available online. I tend to use Google Scholar in combination with FindIt@Leiden, but I still prefer physical books. Sometimes it’s just nice to look at something other than a screen for a change. You often get a required reading list for your classes, but when I need to look up sources for a paper, I always start with the catalogue. With the right filters, you often quickly find what you need.”

We don’t just offer (digital) books and journals. We’ve also got more than 2000 study places and computer spots available just for you. You will need to scan your LU-card to enter the University Library or Law Library, so request your card now! Do you want to use a computer? Book your spot via our website. During exam periods, regular study places also need to be booked in advance.

Any questions about how we can help you? Have a look at the Get Started website. Learn more about our services and library locations in short videos. You could also just stop by the library and ask your question. We are happy to help! For now, request your LU-card, book your study spot and Get Started!
