New! Latest acquisitions UBL, sorted by field on one page

11 September 2022

It is worthwhile for every researcher and student to keep keep up with the latest literature in their field. Recently, Leiden University Libraries (UBL) completely overhauled the page on which new acquisitions are posted. From now on, users can filter the list for more than 50 fields of research and all electronic titles – both books and journals – can be found in the list.

Every year, the UBL purchases thousands of books, of which dozens and often hundreds are catalogued every day. As soon as a book can be found in the catalogue, it will also appear on the acquisitions page. Readers can also request their book or journal directly via this page. A permanent URL has been created for each subject area, so that the page can easily be shared via Brightspace or other education platforms. There is even an RSS feed available, with which the latest titles can be displayed automatically.

Catalogue

The Catalogue is a search and discovery tool that provides results from the library's online and print collections in a single search. It includes titles of printed books, journals, manuscripts, letters, and other material available at the libraries of Leiden University as well as links to the full-text of millions of, mainly, English journal articles and digital images of prints and manuscripts.

Subject Guides

This new functionality has already been applied to the Subject Guide pages on the UBL website. On these pages a lot of information could already be found about the availability of source material in a certain field and how to find it. Now, the latest literature for the same discipline is also available at a glance.

The software, specially written for this application, has been made available by the UBL as Open Source. In this way, other libraries and institutions that work with the same system can take advantage of it, free of charge.
