Fire alarm at KOG on 23 February was false alarm

23 February 2023

On Thursday afternoon 23 February, the emergency alarm sounded at the KOG building at 14.45 hrs after a fire alarm had gone off in the kitchen of the JuCA. Luckily, it turned out to be a false alarm. Nearly all students and staff present in the building at the time vacated the building within 8 minutes. Since it was a false alarm, the emergency response (BHV) team decided not do a clean ‘sweep’ of the building to make sure everyone had left. Just before 15.00 hrs, everyone was allowed to go back inside.

Johan Sjoerdsma (BHV Coordinator at the KOG and other university buildings): 'Even though people often find it difficult to immediately drop what they are doing when the alarm goes off, this kind of evacuation is extremely instructive for the entire BHV team and therefore important for everyone's safety. Today, too, a number of things came to our attention which we will obviously immediately evaluate and act on together. I would like to thank everyone for following the instructions promptly'.
