Apply for the Una Europa Student Congress 2024 in Berlin
Leiden University is part of Una Europa. Want to participate in this international alliance of 11 European Universities and help the Una Europa student community to take root at Leiden University? Here's your opportunity!
Our university can select and fund up to six people — bachelor’s or master’s students, or PhD candidates — to join the fifth Una Europa Student Congress in Berlin from 24-27 September 2024.
Get your application in by 11:00 CEST on 6 May, 2024. If selected, you’ll go to Berlin. There you’ll meet students from all 11 Una Europa universities and Ukrainian partner universities. Together you’ll explore different cultures and think outside the box about the future of higher education and universities.

Una Europa is on a mission to build the University of the Future, together. Our annual Student Congress is all about your perspective, voice, and ideas. It’s a gathering where our student community addresses central questions about student life at European universities, such as:
- Being human in a digital world.
- Why universities?
- Future higher education trends.
After the Congress, you’ll keep the Una Europa spirit going by being part of our Local Student Taskforce here at Leiden University.
Why should I apply?
- Broaden your network. Meet new friends from across Una Europa’s 11 partner universities and our partner institutions in Ukraine.
- Add valuable experience to your CV. You'll gain experience working in international teams, and you'll pick up knowledge related to innovative learning formats.
- Explore the future role of universities. What should higher education look like in a world shaped by artificial intelligence and social media? Think outside the box about future trends in higher education.
- Make a real impact. Help build a strong student community for Una Europa.
- Become part of the Una Europa community. Learn about upcoming opportunities for students and how you can get involved.
What is expected?
If selected, you'll be expected to participate in online meetings this summer. These will prepare you for the programme and the meetings that will take place in Berlin. We will ensure flexibility to join these meetings, even if you have classes or exams.
After the congress, we'll also ask you to share your experience with the Una Europa community. What did you learn at the Student Congress or what did you find valuable? This will help inspire future students to participate!
Who can apply?
To be selected by Leiden University for the congress, you must be:
- Currently studying at bachelor's, master's, or PhD level at Leiden University. We encourage any interested student to apply, regardless of field or level of study.
- Comfortable communicating in English. You don't need to be perfectly fluent but you will need to be able to discuss your own experiences and engage with others' experiences in English.
- Excited to connect with students of all ages, backgrounds, cultural experiences and levels of expertise.
