Last chance: Free HPV vaccination without appointment at Plexus

14 May 2024

On 22, 23, 29 and 30 May, the Dutch Public Health Service (GGD) region Hollands Midden will offer free HPV vaccinations at Plexus Student Centre for the final time. As a student, you can drop by for a free vaccination without appointment. International students are also welcome. The free HPV vaccination is available for anyone born between 1996 and 2003 who is not yet (fully) vaccinated. This will be your last chance to get vaccinated for free. From 1 June 2024 onwards, the vaccination will no longer be free for young adults.

HPV vaccination protects against several forms of cancer. For long-term protection you need two jabs, at least 5 months apart. If you were born between 1996 and 2003 you can get the jabs for free. Didn’t have time to get your second jab in 2023? Then you have till 31 May to complete your vaccination series for free. Note that with GGD region Hollands Midden you can be vaccinated for free till 30 May. In other other GGD regions the last date is 31 May.

80% get HPV

In later life, the HPV virus can cause cancer of the mouth, throat, anus, penis, vagina, labia and cervix. Did you know that eight out of ten people will get infected with HPV at some point in their lives. You can get the virus from having sex with someone who is infected, and also via the hands, skin and mouth. HPV can cause cancer in both women and men. If you are already sexually active, it still makes sense to get vaccinated as it will protect you against possible future infections. The HPV virus is constantly being researched and no lasting side effects have been found.
