Vacancy: student assistant for project 'Levelling the Playing Field'

BA International Studies is looking for a motivated student assistant to collaborate on the JEDI-funded project Levelling the Playing Field: Impact of Different Academic Cultures on Teaching Practices and Learning Experiences concerning inclusive education.

The project aims to identify the diverse educational backgrounds, experiences, and needs of first-year international students of BA International Studies and put forward some suggestions. We seek to uncover potential disparities between their prior education and the academic environment of our university.

Do you want to gain research experience and skills in data collection and analysis? Do you want to be part of working towards a more inclusive learning environment for your peers? And do you want to enlighten our academic staff with your student perspective? Well, this may be something for you! You will be working closely with the project leader on identifying the international students' diverse learning styles, expectations, challenges, and needs.In this way, teachers can improve their course designs and adapt our academic culture to the diverse student population.

Would you like to contribute to this cause? You will be hired from May until December 2024 for a total of +/- 45 hours, excluding the summer recess, as a student assistant.

Job description

As student assistant, you will:

  • assist in data collection through surveys, and on-campus focus groups;
  • assist in the data analysis;
  • provide valuable input from a student’s perspective throughout the project;
  • provide administrative support as needed.

Profile

The candidate we are looking for:

  • has a strong interest in inclusive education, and inclusion and diversity;
  • has strong analytical skills or wishes to develop them;
  • can work independently and collaboratively;
  • can communicate accurately and in a timely manner;
  • can express themself candidly and confidently;
  • is a student of BA International Studies throughout the research project.

What we are offering you

An interesting and varied position, which provides an excellent addition to your study. Relevant working experience is not required. We offer a temporary position from the end of the academic year 2023-2024 through the end of the first semester of the academic year 2024-2025. Salary according to scale Student Assistant of the CAO of Dutch Universities.
