Faculty Strategic Plan Archaeology: May update

21 May 2025

The Faculty of Archaeology is on the eve of a new Faculty Strategic Plan (FSP) that will cover the years 2026-2028. The Faculty Board prioritises the input of the Faculty community in the establishment of this plan. In this update we give you an overview of what has happened up to this point, and which actions are on the horizon.

What happened

A rough outline has been created by the Faculty Board, after which this was discussed by several stakeholders within the Faculty. These discussions led to revisions to the outline, as well as the addition of new ideas.

Stakeholders that were involved: the Heads of Department, Study Association L.A.S. Terra, the Management Team of the Faculty Bureau, the Faculty Council, the Research Committee, the Green Office. And soon: Alumni Association ALFA.

What’s next

Based on the feedback, Faculty Board members Alex Geurds and Jan Pronk will compose the first concept version of the FSP. In June, this concept will be presented to the Advisory Board as well as to the three departments of the Faculty.

What’s on the horizon

In the first semester of the Academic Year 2025-2026 the process will continue. Again, the concept will be discussed in the various committees. Moreover, open meetings will be held in which all staff members and students will be invited to provide their perspectives and input.

This will coincide with the first outcomes of the culture change trajectory to become clear. The steps leading to a desired culture, as formulated by staff and students, will be included in the Faculty Strategic Plan. If all goes according to the planning, the FSP will be enacted by the end of 2025. The Faculty Council will have right of consent for the final version.
