The Faculty Board on the occupation 6 May

7 May 2025

The Faculty Board reacts with aversion to the occupation of Wijnhaven that took place last Tuesday. 'Everyone in our academic community has the right to free speech and demonstrate. But unfortunately, things got completely out of hand yesterday. Many students and staff were suddenly confronted by activists in face-covering clothes who came in with a lot of noise, blocked doors (including some emergency exits) and occupied part of the building.

This action again caused fear among staff and students. Because of the insecurity in the building, there was no choice but to evacuate the building and cancel all activities - from classes to lectures with foreign guests. Very disappointing for many so near the end of a busy block. Unfortunately, the police had to intervene to restore order on the streets and lift the occupation of the building.' Read the reaction from the Executive Board here
