The Hague and Leiden less accessible from 22 June till 26 June due to NATO summit

21 May 2025

On 24 and 25 June, the NATO summit will take place at the World Forum in The Hague. Strict security measures will be in place in the region. These will affect travel to and from our university buildings in The Hague and Leiden.

Traffic disruption

From the afternoon of Sunday 22 June until Thursday 26 June, motorists should expect severe traffic disruption on the roads in and around The Hague, Leiden, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Trains will run as normal during the NATO Summit but may be busier than usual. Trams and buses in The Hague will also run according to their usual timetable, with the exception of routes through the closed area around the World Forum in The Hague.

Teaching going ahead as usual on location - allow extra travel time

Leiden University advises students to monitor the government's travel information and allow for extra travel time to and from classes. Teaching, including exams, scheduled on these dates will go ahead as usual on location. However, keep an eye on Brightspace in case of specific instructions from your study programme.

For the most up-to-date information on the impact of the NATO Summit on The Hague and Leiden, please check the website of the Municipality of Leiden and the Municipality of The Hague (information in Dutch). You can also find national measures and advice on the Dutch Government website [Accessibility with regard to the 2025 NATO Summit].
