Vacancy: Student mentors – MSc Crisis and Security Management
As the programme Crisis and Security Management, we find it important that all our students feel integrated in our student community and supported by their programme. To ensure this, we run a mentoring programme for all CSM students. To be able to organise this mentoring programme for the coming academic year, we are currently looking for enthusiastic and engaged student mentors (2-3 hours per week) for all specialisations.
As a student mentor, you will support teachers with their education, organising Q&A sessions and feedback moments. In addition you will organise informative activities and other events for students. You inform students and teachers on the educational facilities and systems, but also student wellbeing initiatives and career services. This is especially important, because most of our new students are unfamiliar with our campus. You will coordinate your activities with the master coordinators, whom you will support where necessary. You also maintain close contacts and work together with the other student mentors. As a mentor, you will be registered as a student-assistent and receive compensation accordingly.
Profile of a student mentor:
- Student with a strong affinity to their study programme; Master of Crisis and Security Management;
- Possesses strong communication skills and acts diplomatically and with integrity;
- Presents themself as helpful, accessible and flexible to fellow students;
- Is preferably experienced in guiding groups (e.g. teaching or training);
- Has strong organisational skills, online and offline;
- Is assertive, takes initiative, and has a hands-on work ethic;
- Values inclusiveness and diversity;
- Enrolled at Leiden University Master of Crisis and Security Management;
- Available between 1 August 2025 and 1 February 2026, for 2-3 hours a week.
- The one day training programme will be held on Friday 15 August and Monday 25 August, it is mandatory to be in The Hague on one of those days;
- Legally able to work in the Netherlands, and a Dutch Health insurance.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Providing support to the teachers in the track courses;
- Creating a student community;
- Support the students with connecting to each other, the study programme and faculty;
- Answering practical questions;
- Organising and planning of meetings;
- Preparing and chairing these meetings;
- Point of contact for the students, when you come across any difficulties experienced by group members you refer them to the appropriate support, department or procedure.
