Train strikes and exams

16 June 2025

Tuesday 17 June, another train strike will take place. In North Holland and Eastern Netherlands staff members of NS will strike. It's not clear yet what the effect will be on the train service throughout the country.

Earlier, on Friday 6 and 13 June, train services were also disrupted due to a strike.

Examinations continue: check Brightspace

In the event of an NS train strike, examinations will continue as usual. Do you have an exam on the day of a strike? Check Brightspace first for the latest information from your lecturer. If your examination goes ahead, it may mean that you have to arrange alternative transport.

Examination board

If you are unable to attend the exam (first chance) because of the strike, we refer you to the resit option. If it concerns a resit examination, you can submit a motivated request for a replacement examination opportunity to the examination committee of your programme. In this case, you must be able to make it plausible that you were unable to come to Leiden or The Hague as a result of the strike and were therefore unable to sit the resit.

60 minutes

Due to the circumstances, students can still be admitted up to 60 minutes after the start of the exam instead of the regular 45 minutes.
