Vacancy: Student Assistant Social Media (12 hours per week)

Are you passionate about social media? Do you know how to effectively reach students online? And are you skilled with a camera? Then this might be your opportunity! The Communications & Marketing department of the Faculty of Humanities is looking for a student assistant for 12 hours per week starting in September 2025.

As a student assistant for social media, you will support the communications officer in both internal and external communication. You will work in a small team to help make the faculty’s education programme's and research projects accessible to (prospective) students and staff members.

Your tasks may include:

  • Managing the faculty’s Instagram account (@leidenhumanities)
  • Creating engaging reels about Leiden and The Hague, the Faculty of Humanities, and student life
  • Developing content that helps students feel more connected and comfortable within the faculty
  • Interviewing students about their degree programme, thesis, or other relevant topics
  • Taking and editing photos and videos for social media
  • Doing portrait photography of students, alumni, and staff for news articles

What kind of candidate are we looking for?

You are a full-time bachelor’s or master’s student and have obtained at least your propaedeutic diploma. You are available for a minimum of one year starting in September 2025. You are an ideal candidate for this position if you:

  • Are creative and eager to learn, and you know what's going on in the student community
  • Enjoy taking photos and videos with a camera or your smartphone
  • Are proficient in editing and working with photo and video files (experience with Adobe Suite is an advantage)
  • Stay up to date with social media trends, but also have the ability to contribute your own unique and creative ideas
  • Can analyse social media performance and contribute ideas for strategy
  • Have a good command of spoken and written English

When, how many hours, and where?

Starting in September 2025, for 12 hours per week. These hours can be spread across several days, depending on your availability. The appointment is for one year, with a probationary period of two months. The position is based at the faculty editorial office within the Communications & Marketing department, located in the Herta Mohr Building in Leiden.

What do we offer?

At the faculty editorial office, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the field of communications and the inner workings of the faculty. We offer a dynamic and stimulating working environment with many enjoyable and creative tasks. You will work in a team of friendly colleagues, each with their own area of expertise. The gross monthly salary ranges between €2925 and €2981 (based on a full-time appointment of 38 hours per week, depending on your year of study).
