Write a Leiden Law Blog in Pride month!

12 June 2025

The Leiden Law Blog is a platform of Leiden Law School where researchers, lecturers and students can contribute to current discussions on legal topics. An opportunity to share expertise and insights with a broader audience and contribute to academic debate.

A blog is a short and accessible text that can be followed by a wide audience. In it, you can share personal views on topics and in a personal capacity. Visit Leiden Law Blog for some recent examples.

This month, we’d like to highlight the Pride month. Here are a few suggestions for possible blog topics:

  • The protection of minority rights such as those of LGBTQIA+ people within democracy.
  • The Netherlands was once a forerunner in terms of gay rights – what’s our position in the world now?
  • The status of (new) legislation to protect LHBTQIA+-people.
  • The importance of LHBTQIA+-people being represented in public positions such as within politics and the armed forces.
  • Political asylum for LHBTQIA+-people from the United States.
  • The effects of border controls on transgender people, as a result of American checks at the border where passport data did not match information in birth certificates.
  • The consequences of the deportation of asylum seekers who have exhausted all legal remedies if they have to return to a country that is not a safe place for LGBTQIA+ people.
  • The clash of fundamental rights between the prohibition of discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people and freedom of expression.
  • The economic consequences of discrimination of LHBTQIA+-people.

Do none of the topics above appeal to you, but you'd still like to write a blog? We're always open to suggestions and will soon send a new call for blogs in academic year 2025-2026.

We look forward to your valuable contributions!
