Students and PhD candidates: apply by 18 December to join our Una Europa task force

Bachelor's and master's students, and PhD candidates: this is your invitation to build your skills in leadership, governance, event and project management, engagement and communication — and expand your professional network at the same time.

By applying to join our Una Europa Local Task Force, you can gain valuable work experience and connect with students, staff, and academics from both our university and Una Europa partner universities across Europe.

What is Una Europa?

It's an alliance of 11 leading European research universities, including Leiden University. Una Europa provides research opportunities, learning and professional development experiences to all students and employees at Leiden University, including LUMC.

Una Europa brings students together from across Europe.

What is the Local Task Force (LTF)?

The LTF is one way in which students are represented in Una Europa. The LTF works closely with Student Board members to raise awareness about the activities of the alliance in the student community, and to support the Student Board members in their representational role. 

Key goals include:

  • organising projects and activities on Una Europa themes within Leiden University;
  • involving Leiden University students in Una Europa activities;
  • identifying the interests and understand the needs of Leiden University students and presenting them to the Una Europa Student Board;
  • supporting and participate in initiatives suggested and organised by the Una Europa Student Board;
  • helping to build relationships with the student bodies of the other universities within the Una Europa alliance.

Please note, to apply you must:

  • be enrolled as a bachelor's or master's student, or PhD Candidate at Leiden University (including LUMC) in the academic year 2025-2026;
  • Not due to graduate before July 2026;
  • have a good command of English (suggested level C1) as you will be required to draft documents, attend events, and interact with students and staff in English.  

Opportunities

Co-Presidents

Lead the local task force, represent LU at the Una Europa Student Board and shape our projects across Europe. This is a high-impact role for students who want to lead, connect and build cross-border student initiatives.

What you will do

  • Represent our LTF at Una Europa events and engage in meetings with Leiden University's Student Board representatives.
  • Coordinate the LTF board and ensure smooth cooperation between departments.
  • Set strategic priorities together with the board and follow up on deliverables.
  • Act as primary spokesperson for the LTF in internal and external communications.
  • Ensure transparent decision-making.

You’re a great fit if

  • You’re proactive, diplomatic and enjoy representing others.
  • You can balance strategy and hands-on coordination.
  • You’re comfortable speaking in meetings and building partnerships.

Commitment and perks

  • ~5 hours/week (more during major events/projects).

Vice-President

Keep the LTF running, oversee administration, and ensure the LTF operates smoothly and efficiently.

What you will do

  • Oversee the Administrative Department and day-to-day internal operations.
  • Manage budgets, scheduling and coordination between departments.
  • Support the Co-Presidents in strategic planning and follow-up.
  • Maintain compliance with the set standards of reporting and documentation.

You’re a great fit if

  • You’re organised, reliable and enjoy systems/processes.
  • You have basic budgeting or project-management experience (desirable but not required).

Commitment and perks

  • ~4 hours/week (more during major projects).
  • Valuable admin and project-management experience for your CV.

Secretary

Be the glue in the meetings, capture decisions, and keep the LTF’s documentation tidy and accessible.

What you will do

  • Create agendas and circulate meeting invites.
  • Take minutes, follow up on action points and maintain an accessible archive.
  • Keep track of deadlines and prepare meeting summaries for the LTF board and Student Board.
  • Support onboarding by maintaining member records.

You’re a great fit if

  • You’re detail-oriented, a good writer and enjoy keeping things organised.
  • Basic familiarity with Google Drive is a plus.

Commitment and perks

  • ~3 hours/week.
  • Great way to build organisational skills and visibility in the board.

People & Talents Team

Grow our team and keep members engaged, you’ll design recruitment and onboarding that make people stick around.

What you will do

  • Lead recruitment campaigns and manage selection processes.
  • Create and run onboarding for new members.
  • Organise team-building and member engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with the Co-Presidents and Secretary to maintain accurate member records and ensure volunteer satisfaction.

You’re a great fit if

  • You love working with people, are empathetic, and creative in your approach to engagement.
  • Experience with recruitment, events or HR-style activities is welcome.

  • ~2 hours/week plus occasional event time.
  • Build people-management experience and boost your leadership CV.

Projects & Events Team

Design and deliver the events and projects that bring Una Europa to life for Leiden University students.

What you will do

  • Plan, organise and execute events (workshops, panels, socials, trips).
  • Coordinate project timelines, logistics and budgets.
  • Liaise with other student associations and Una Europa partners to run joint events.
  • Lead a small team and report outcomes to the board.

You’re a great fit if

  • You enjoy event planning, are detail-oriented and can manage multiple moving parts.
  • Good communicator and a hands-on problem solver.

Commitment and perks

  • ~2 hours/week; more around events.
  • Hands-on project management and networking experience.

Communication & Marketing Team

Tell the LTF story, build the LTF brand, manage social channels and connect with students.

What you will do

  • Manage WhatsApp groups and act as a social hub for members.
  • Create branding assets and promotional content for events and campaigns with the People & Talents Team.
  • Produce content for newsletters and the Student Board Instagram in collaboration with the Projects & Events Team.
  • Engage and coordinate with other student organisations for cross-promotion.

You’re a great fit if

  • You’re creative, know your way around social media and enjoy designing content.
  • Know how to communicate with a larger audience.
  • Experience with Canva, basic graphic design or copywriting is a plus.

Commitment & perks

  • ~2 hours/week.
  • Build a portfolio of communications work and boost your marketing resume.

Not interested in a board position but want to create projects, meet students across Europe, or simply join LTF events? You would be a perfect fit. Become an LTF member and run your own activities with guidance from the board, join cross-university initiatives (book club, letter exchanges, international socials) and access Una Europa events, all for free.

In this case, your commitment will be flexible and project based: anything from one-off event support to regular involvement. You decide how much you want to give. For you, it means opportunities to:
