12 December is Purple Friday: the day when you can show solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community by wearing purple. By doing so, you show that we can all be ourselves, no matter who we are or fall in love with. In Leiden and The Hague, pride flags are flown on University buildings on Purple Friday. By colouring the university purple, we show that diversity is the norm and that no one should be excluded. If you would like to show your support on Friday, wear purple clothes and/or accessories that day.

Event

Purple Friday is a moment to start the conversation about how we, as a university community, can support the LGBTQIA+ community. Queer Leiden University is organizing an event to reflect on the ways in which institutions, such as Leiden University, should effectively translate their strategies, values, and promises into practices that ensure the safety and well-being of marginalized communities, including LGBTQIA+ individuals. In this way, the solidarity of Purple Friday can grow into lasting, meaningful change. You can find more information and the registration form on the website.
