Exams in the event of weather warnings or public transport disruptions

6 January 2026

With the current wintry conditions, the Dutch national weather service KNMI frequently issues weather warnings. Disruptions to public transport can also occur across the country. In principle, all exams will still go ahead except when a code red weather warning has been issued in at least the province of Zuid-Holland. See also: What to do in the case of a weather alert. During an exam period we advise everyone, where possible, to leave home in good time and to check the most recent travel information.

Board of Examiners
Are you a first-year student and is it impossible for you to be on time for an exam due to weather conditions? You can use the web form to send a request to the Board of Examiners explaining the situation and providing proof, asking that you be allowed to take the second exam opportunity (resit) of that exam.

Are you a bachelor’s student in a later year or a master’s student, we ask you in the first instance to sit the exam at the second opportunity (resit). If necessary, the Board of Examiners will decide on an additional arrangement.

60 minutes
Because of the weather conditions, students will be allowed to enter an exam up to 60 minutes after it has started, instead of the standard 45-minute limit.

Questions
If you have a question about a specific exam, please contact your lecturer via email. For any general questions, send an email to the Exam Support Department (toetssupport@law.leidenuniv.nl).
