Wanted: two Student Ambassadors at the Faculty of Archaeology

17 April 2026

The Communications team of the Faculty of Archaeology is looking to appoint two Student Ambassadors as of 1 September 2026 (0.1 FTE / 0.5 day per week).

We are seeking two active and enthusiastic students who would like to represent the Bachelor’s and (Research) Master’s programmes in Archaeology. Are you interested in gaining experience in helping to organise information and outreach events? Are you accurate, representative, proactive, and are your study results strong enough that you have time for an additional role? Then the Student Ambassador position may be perfect for you.

As a Student Ambassador, you will carry out outreach tasks and support in the organisation of events. You will also serve as a point of contact for prospective students. In this role, you are the face of the Bachelor’s or (Research) Master’s programme in Archaeology, as well as of Leiden University.

Activities

  • Set up and coordinate a student outreach team (recruiting and selecting students; training and deploying them), in consultation with the Communications team
  • Create and maintain standard outreach materials, such as presentations for school visits
  • Coordinate and conduct school visits (providing information about the programme/Leiden University, either yourself or through a member of the outreach team)
  • Co-organise outreach activities such as Open Days and Experience Day events (from preparation and setup to cleanup afterward)
  • Organise and coordinate Student for a Day events

Criteria

  • A current or upcoming second- or third-year Bachelor’s student in Archaeology, or a student in the (Research) Master’s programme in Archaeology
  • Strong academic performance
  • Affinity with and experience in giving presentations, including in English
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Dutch and English; for the Master’s ambassador role, proficiency in English alone is sufficient
  • Reliable, proactive, enthusiastic, flexible, and representative
  • Strong organisational skills

We offer

A fun and varied position that is a valuable addition to your studies and CV. You will be appointed temporarily as a Student Ambassador for the duration of one year, starting 1 September 2026, with potential for an extension of one more year. Compensation is based on the SA (Voorlichters) scale. The exact salary depends on your year of study and the number of hours worked, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).
