Call for input: help shape the accessibility of the Aleida Nijland building

24 August 2026

Construction of the University’s newest faculty building, the Aleida Nijland building, will begin in 2027. The University wants to ensure that everyone can work and study there comfortably. This starts with a building that is accessible and user-friendly for all. Before the building is completed, we would particularly like to take into account the wishes and needs of people with accessibility needs or support requirements. Would you like to contribute your ideas? If so, please join the Accessibility Working Group.

From design to everyday use

Naturally, the Aleida Nijland building will meet all legal accessibility requirements. At the same time, there is still scope within the detailed design process to accommodate specific needs and preferences. This may include, for example, wayfinding and signage, logical circulation routes, particular requirements for furniture, or the readability and accessibility of information.

Contribute through the Accessibility Working Group

You may have personal experience of accessibility needs, or perhaps you feel that certain aspects could be improved in a new building. We would very much like to hear from you. To join the Working Group, please contact Carola Koetsier by email at c.t.koetsier@hum.leidenuniv.nl. The first meeting will take place on 1 September from 14:00 to 15:30 in the Herta Mohr building.

If you are unable to attend, or would prefer not to join the meeting, you are of course welcome to share your insights or suggestions with us by email.
