Modern dance
Tuesday from 17:00-18:00 h
- Teacher
- Sophie Vos
For whom
This course is for those who want to move, breathe, experience, sweat, and be vulnerable. In other words: to dance.
Content
In this course, we will work with modern dance technique. This means we will focus on our own bodies: What shapes do we take? In which directions can we move? How do our back and spine facilitate this? How do we use our weight in relation to gravity?
With movement qualities: What does it mean to move hard or soft? How do we use the tension and relaxation of our muscles? How does our breathing influence this?
And with emotion: What story do these movements tell? How does the music make me feel?
To achieve this, we will start with technique, move through technical dance exercises, and improvisation.
This course will conclude with a final presentation in a theater, scheduled for May 26, 2026.
Teacher
Sophie Vos trained as a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and circus artist at Codarts University of the Arts. This has given her extensive knowledge and experience in the field of dance. She has studied various modern dance techniques, such as Laban, Graham, and Cunningham. Drawing on this experience, she uses various elements that converge in her movement language as a dancer.
Sophie works as a dancer, choreographer, and teacher in various contexts, including dance schools, training programs, and community centers. Besides dancing as her ultimate goal, she uses dance as a means to bring people together and to surpass herself.
