Discover the beauty of ink and the Japanese brush!

The Japanese term "sumi" means "black ink," and "e" means painting. It refers to a form of art in which painting is done with black ink.
Characteristic of the style is simplicity and precise brush strokes, ranging from pure black to the lightest possible shades diluted with water.

Discover with loading your brush with water and ink that a beautiful gradation is created in one stroke. You only paint what is necessary. The part that is not painted, the white space, is just as important. In a number of strokes with the right pressure in your brush movement without contours, you let the painting emerge. It's about achieving a maximum of imagination with a minimal number of strokes.

Rice paper absorbs the ink immediately, making an improvement of the brush stroke no longer possible. We work with various brushes, ink sticks, liquid ink, a support color (ink), and different types of paper, including rice paper.
Based on various subjects from nature, we will explore what is possible in 5 lessons. Even a representation without figuration can express the beauty of the power of the brush strokes.

Materials are provided during the lessons. For materials to use at home, you need to purchase them yourself. You can ask the teacher for advice on this.
