Working as a researcher

Are you interested in a career in research? Or are you still trying to figure out whether it suits you? Are you curious about the difference between a career in academic research and applied research? And do you want to know how to start up a career as a researcher? Visit our career event ‘Working as a researcher on Friday 4 May 2018!

Various speakers will present their career paths and their current jobs. Both PhD students of Leiden University and researchers of various companies will give insights into their work. Also there will be skills workshops to participate in, like “Networking for researchers”, “How to write an (academic) cv?” and “Presenting for researchers”.

Visit this inspiring event filled with the highlights and challenges of a career in research. The programme details will be presented when definitive, but we can already say that present will be:

Opening speaker Inge van der Weijden (Researcher Leiden University - Career Policy & Paths in Science) , Jos Meester (Researcher - Clingendael Institute), and several PhD’ers and career specialists, Elisabeth Meulenbroek (Scientist Downstream Processing - Janssen Vaccines).

12.30 - 13.00 Registration with coffee / tea
13.00 - 14.00 Plenary opening
14.00 - 15.00 Workshop round 1
15.00 - 16.00 Workshop round 2
16.00 - 17.00 Workshop round 3
17.00 - 17.30 Round up with networking drinks

 

Who can participate?

Students of the Leiden University and alumni within the first year after graduation. English will be the main language of this event.

Date: 4 May 2018, 12.30 – 17.30 hrs.
Costs: EUR 7.50 including coffee/tea and networking drinks
