Grief recovery group

How to go on living and studying when someone you love dies.

After the loss of a loved one it can be very difficult to cope with studying and (student) life in general. It can be helpful to share the loss with other students who have gone through a similar experience.

Programme

The group meets every 2 weeks, for a total of 6 sessions. The maximum group size is 6 persons.
The grief counselors are 2 psychologists. The topics that will be discussed during the sessions are:

  • Who is the person that died?
  • What happened?
  • What kind of feelings are you experiencing?
  • What memories do you have?
  • How can you move forward after this loss?

Recognition and acknowledgement help with the grieving process.

Conditions

The death of your loved one must be more than 6 months ago. If you want to join the group, you will have an intake session with the student psychologist, during which the psychologist will decide if the group can meet your needs. A grief questionnaire will be completed before the first group session and after the last one.

Who can participate?

Students enrolled at Leiden University.

Registration

Students can register via the consultation hours of the student psychologists. Please note that there may be a waiting period before you can join group sessions. Additional information about the training can be requested by sending an email to psychologen@sea.leidenuniv.nl.
