After brief presentations from each of the speakers, the audience will have the opportunity to participate in a direct dialogue with the panelists to deepen their knowledge about the Alliance of the Pacific and how it connects to the world and the most pressing issues in the international system today.
The Alliance of the Pacific is a regional integration mechanism in Latin America that comprises Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. It was officially established on April 28, 2011 with the main objectives of progressively achieving free mobility of goods, services, resources and people; promoting the economic growth, development and competitiveness of its members; and becoming a platform of political articulation, economic and commercial integration and projection to the world, with emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region.
In the eleventh anniversary of the Alliance, the ambassadors in the Netherlands of the four Member States will discuss the main achievements and current priorities, including areas such as free trade, gender equality and digitization.
The Ambassador of Ecuador in the Netherlands will discuss why his country has decided to join this successful mechanism. Ecuador will shortly become a full Member State of the Alliance. Similarly, the Ambassador of Singapore will talk about the ways in which the Alliance of the Pacific has strengthened ties with the Asian-Pacific region. In January, 2022, Singapore became the first Associated State of the Alliance.
Finally, the Alliance of the Pacific currently has 61 Observer States, being the Netherlands one of them. This opens important areas for collaboration and exchange of best practices. Ms. Yvette van Eechoud, Director General for the Wetern Hemisphere at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs will offer a Dutch and European perspective on this matter.
