Roeland Böcker

From 2017-2021 Mr. Roeland Böcker served as Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the Council of Europe. Together with his colleagues from the other 46 Member States, he took part in the meetings of the Committee of Ministers, the main decision-making body of the organisation. In this capacity Ambassador Böcker was actively involved in one of the most turbulent episodes in the history of European co-operation, which culminated in the unprecedented decision to exclude the Russian Federation from the Council of Europe.

In a special guest lecture on Thursday 8 December, Mr. Böcker will reflect on his practical experiences in Strasbourg and on the challenges facing the most important institution that was established to promote human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe.

Hosts: prof. Niels Blokker and prof. Rick Lawson.
