Strijden Ga Ik: Surinamese Student Union X Afro Student Association

On Friday 9 February it's time again for Lakenhal Late! This edition, meet the special story of the Surinamese Student Union as well as students of the Afro Student Association. During this evening we dive deeper into history and the parallels with today. What does this emancipation struggle look like among students at Leiden University today? What is being agendized and in what ways? What has changed?
Collaboration with Afro Student Association
Experience an evening of spoken word, dance performances, workshops and short tours of the exhibition I Will Fight - Anton de Kom and the Surinamese Student Union. The program is put together in collaboration with the Afro Student Association, a student network working hard for an inclusive university.
Talk
Paul Day, reunionist of the Suriname Student Union, and Levi Ommen, former president of the Afro Student Association, led by Mitchell Esajas of The Black Archives, will discuss the struggle for emancipation among students then and now. What means did the Surinamese Student Union use? And are there differences with how the Afro Student Association puts these issues on the agenda?
