Colonial Korean Print Shops through Computer Vision
Please join us for our next LUCDH lunchtime talk presented by Aron van de Pol (PhD candidate LUCDH & LIAS ) on Tuesday, 16 April 2024 at 12:00 – 13:00 (CET).
During this lunch lecture, I will share a case study from my dissertation that is currently in development. This study focuses on the potential of computer vision in the realm of Korean historical research, with a special emphasis on the print shops that were active during colonial Korea. This presentation will highlight how I employ computer vision and interpretability techniques to examine a large collection of scanned texts from the colonial period, aiming to uncover insights related the visual aspects of these print shops left on their productions. I will discuss the development of a dataset, outline the methodology, and share the progress so far.
