Indigenous populations in Latin America have historically been understood as ethnic/cultural minorities in need of accommodation within the dominant culture and political system of the nation-state. Far from passive subjects of high politics, indigenous populations have been active actors in the political processes shaping and reshaping the nation-state. This roundtable brings together expertise on indigeneity in four Latin American countries: Bolivia, Chile, Guatemala, and Peru. The panel takes an interdisciplinary approach to ask about the most important contributions to political change by indigenous populations in recent times.

The roundtable will showcase four short case-based presentations followed by questions and discussion.
