Abstract
After more than three decades of conflict, the Helsinki Peace Agreement marked a pivotal moment that ended violence in Aceh, Indonesia. The Last Accord: War, Apocalypse, and Peace in Aceh offers insight into how the agreement was successfully achieved, highlighting the key factors that enabled its success and the roles played by state and non-state actors as well as international mediators. In light of the geopolitical challenges the international community faces today, the film provides important lessons on how fostering trust and negotiation can operate beyond conventional notions of diplomacy in facilitating peace-building efforts.
With opening remarks by Dr. Dino Patti Djalal and Q&A with Dr. Irene Hadiprayitno and Professor David Henley.
