Abstract
In this talk, we will discuss to what extent recent new insights into the branching of the Indo-European language family has repercussions for the reconstruction of the Proto-Indo-European stop system. Are there indications that the stop system of Early Proto-Indo-European (“Proto-Indo-Anatolian”) may have to be reconstructed differently from the stop system of one or more later stages of Proto-Indo-European? In other words: can we set up a relative chronology of the stop system(s) of different stages of the Indo-European ancestor language?
