Europe is facing a rapidly changing and increasingly complex security landscape. Extremist movements are evolving in new directions, disinformation is undermining trust in democratic institutions, and foreign states are increasingly testing the resilience of European societies. These developments confront governments and professionals with fundamental strategic and policy challenges.
In this introductory lecture, Professor Bart Schuurman analyses the multidimensional threat landscape currently facing European governments. He examines the underlying drivers of extremism, disinformation and state-based threats, and explores the courses of action and strategies available to address these challenges effectively.
