Fair Educational Assessment in the Age of AI
Generative Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly prominent role in higher education. Students and lecturers alike use GenAI tools in assignments, exams, and assessment processes. But does AI actually make assessment fairer — or less fair? The FAIR‑ASSESS project explores how we can ensure just, transparent, and responsible forms of assessment in this new context.
What to expect
During this session, we will present some of the results and insights from the FAIR‑ASSESS project and explore the opportunities and risks of GenAI‑supported assessment. We will address questions such as:
- What does fairness mean in the age of AI?
- How does GenAI influence the relationship between students and lecturers?
- And what kind of normative framework could help guide the responsible use of GenAI in assessment?
For whom?
Anyone who works or studies at Leiden University and is interested in the future of assessment in higher education. If you are curious about how GenAI affects the fairness of evaluation, or if you would like to reflect on responsible assessment practices, you are very welcome — regardless of your role, position, or background.
