Participants discuss their stance on the significance of speaker intentions in communication, and in models of communication. Speaker meaning typically takes central stage in such models, but it is not an unproblematic concept since hearers may derive meanings that are not necessarily speaker intended and yet this Hearer Meaning may play a crucial role in terms of real-world effects and speakers may be held accountable for meanings they did not intend to be communicated. Invited participants include Stephen Levinson, Bart Geurts, Richard Moore, Maj-Britt Mosegaard-Hansen, Mark Dingemanse, Samira Ibnelkaïd, and Martin Stokhof.
