This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of Kees van Raad’s teaching career in international tax law. He began teaching in this field primarily for the former NIVRA (Netherlands Institute of Registered Accountants) and the former Dutch Federation of Tax Advisers (NFB). From 1978 onward he also taught at Leiden University, where he had been appointed in 1975 and where, in 1986, he became the first holder of the newly established Chair in International Tax Law.
On Friday, 28 August, the Department of Tax Law of the Leiden University Faculty of Law will host a symposium to celebrate this anniversary. The symposium forms part of a two‑day lustrum gathering of alumni of the International Tax Center Leiden (ITC). Between 1998 and 2019, the ITC – together with Leiden University – graduated more than 750 participants from the Adv LLM in International Tax Law, nearly 200 of whom will return to Leiden at the end of August.
The symposium will feature short presentations on various topics in international tax law by former ITC teachers: John F. Avery Jones CBE (London School of Economics), Wei Cui (University of British Columbia), Malcolm Gammie KC (tax barrister, One Essex Court), and Johann Hattingh (University of Cape Town).
Those interested in attending may register by filling in this form. The symposium will take place in the Cleveringa Hall of the Leiden Law School building, the Kamerlingh Onnes Building (KOG), Steenschuur 25, Leiden. The programme begins at 13:00 on Friday, 28 August. Attendees are kindly requested to be seated no later than 12:50.
