Inherited accent mobility in Luwic: methodology and analysis

Abstract
Accent mobility, i.e., the movement of the accent within inflectional paradigms, is a well-known feature of Proto-Indo-European. Within the Anatolian branch, Hittite mobile accent has been studied extensively. Conversely, accent mobility in the Luwic subgroup of Anatolian has remained without systematic treatment. In this talk, evidence of inherited Luwic accent mobility is presented, preceded by a methodological discussion on how to locate the accent in the Luwic languages Luwian, Lycian, and Lydian in the first place. It is argued that a small number of Luwic stems remained mobile, either until their earliest attestation or recent prehistory.
