Equal lecture times for all faculties
Starting from September 2019, all faculties within Leiden University will have equal start and ending times for lectures. What does this mean for you as a student at the Faculty of Science?
Changing the start and end times of lectures meets the wishes of students and lecturers to follow and teach outside the faculty of their own study programme. At the moment, the start and end times of lectures differ per faculty and/or programme, and it is often unclear whether or not the ‘Leids kwartiertje' is applied. Commissioned by the Executive Board, the project group has worked on the most harmonious possible daily schedule for Leiden University. The project group worked out various proposals and tested them with students and staff.
What will change?
The new daily schedule is divided into five blocks (see below) that are the same for each faculty.
The Faculty of Science has an adjusted schedule. In the morning, students follow courses in block 1 and 2. Taking into account the various contact hours and long(er) educational days, an optional break is scheduled for students of the Faculty of Science from 13.00 to 14.15 hours. If this break is used, students will follow blocks 3 and 4 in the afternoon (see schedule below). These blocks differ slightly from the harmonised start and end times of lectures. If there is no scheduled break, the harmonised daily schedule will be followed. The times of the lectures for students at the Faculty of Science, when the adjusted schedule will be followed, are:
|Blocks||Timetable||Lectures in hours|
|Block 1||09.15 - 11.00 uur||09.15 - 10.00 uur|
|10.15 - 11.00 uur|
|Block 2||11.15 - 13.00 uur||11.15 - 12.00 uur|
|12.15 - 13.00 uur|
|Optional break||13.00 - 14.15 uur|
|Block 3||14.15 - 16.00 uur||14.15 - 15.00 uur|

|Block 4||16.15 - 18.00||16.15 - 17.00 uur|
