Michiel Kreutzer to return to Delft University of Technology

Professor Michiel Kreutzer, Dean of the Faculty of Science at Leiden University, will move to Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) on 1 May. Alongside his professorship, he will focus on university initiatives in the field of innovation in education.

The Board of the Faculty of Science will receive temporary support from Professor Paul Wouters, who will combine this role with his deanship at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. As of 1 April, the Board of the Faculty of Science will have the following composition: Paul Wouters, acting Dean; Bart de Smit, Vice-Dean; Dirkje Schinkelshoek, Director of Operational Management; and Joost Barendse, Assessor.

The Executive Board has asked Professor Bert Meijer and Professor Wim van Saarloos to join the Faculty in reflecting on the administration of the Faculty and its institutes, to outline a strategy together with the Faculty and to advise on the profile of the new dean to be appointed. They will complete this advice before the summer.

Professor Erwin Muller, Dean of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs, will act as quartermaster for the LDE convergence programme in Artificial Intelligence. He will combine this with his other duties.

Rector Magnificus Hester Bijl is sorry to see Michiel Kreutzer leave Leiden University. ‘We are grateful to Michiel for all he has done for Leiden University, in particular for his leadership during the coronavirus crisis, where he has always had a good eye for the wellbeing and personal circumstances of our students and staff. As quartermaster, he has given impetus to the AI programme. We wish him all the best in his new role at TU Delft.’
